I first saw this technique demonstrated by Mavis (Mavis, I don't know your last name!!) at a stamping retreat in Sylvan Lake, Alberta this fall. I was amazed by how beautiful it looks and it is so simple!!! For those of you who do not sew and have no idea what stitch witchery is (and I was one of those!) it is a fusible webbing for bonding fabric together without having to stitch it the old fashioned way. You get it at any fabric or sewing store.
Here's how I did this card:
Cut out a piece of the Stich Witchery (henceforth known as SW!) that is slightly larger than the piece of cardstock. In this card I cut the piece 5 inches by 6 inches.
Lay the SW over the card stock and heat it with your heat tool. As you heat it, the webbing will melt and create web-like holes. The more you heat it, the bigger the holes will be.
While it is still warm, lay the cardstock piece in a powder pal tray and dump on embossing powder. In this card I used silver.
Then heat the EP again until it melts and VOILA!!! Trim the excess off from around the edges and you have a beautiful and unique background!
For a different look you can also use PearlEx instead of embossing powder. There is no need to heat the pearlex a second time.
Here is one piece I tried using pearlex. Try it and let me know how it works for you!

Fabulous Terri thanks for sharing. I love the ideas you came up with and the snowman card on blue and white was terrific. I could see how the lighter color seemed to jump out first even though it was the Background great stuff!
Have a Super Stampin' Day!
