I've had so many requests for directions to make this box that I thought I'd post them here for everyone's enjoyment! Click here to see a completed one!. You'll notice that the pictures all have different papers....this is because they were taken from different ladies' projects at one of my classes! At the bottom of this post you will also find a link for printable directions so make sure you click on that if you want a paper copy ....the file is done in Word :) A big thanks also to my lovely hand model ....Jen Blahun! Enjoy!
Supplies
- Designer Series Patterned Paper, cut 6” x 12”
- Lining – 4 7/8” x 10” of coordinating paper
- Chipboard or heavy cardboard panels for box: 4 pieces, 2 ¼” x 5” and 1 piece 1” x 5”
- Box lid – 6 ¾” x 6 ¾” square of coordinating colored cardstock
- Inside “boxes” – 4 pieces, 6” square (12x12 SU! Paper cut into 4)
- Embellishments of choice
- Glue stick, or preferred adhesive
- Sticky Strip
- Bone folder
- Paper Trimmer
Step 1)
Using the 6 x 12" patterned paper, lay the side that you do not want to show face up on your table. Generously apply glue stick to one side of the chipboard panels and arrange as shown, leaving a small space between each panel about the width of the chipboard.
You'll want to make sure that you line the bottoms of the panels up perfectly otherwise your box will be uneven! You can do this by drawing a line across the bottom or arranging a flat object along the bottom edge and butting the panels up against it.
Step 2)
Trim off each corner of the paper and wrap all the edges towards the center of the panels and glue in place.
Step 3)
Glue liner paper to inside, BUT…make sure when you “fold” the panels into the box shape, that the paper folds with it, bend it into shape while the glue is still wet to make any necessary adjustments. If you do not, the paper might crack along the corners when the box is folded!
Step 4) Inside boxes and lid
Important!! You must use a bone folder to make nice sharp creases!
Pencil a straight line lightly on each square, from corner to corner making an X.
Step 5) Folding the Boxes
Fold one corner to meet center of the X. Crease using your bone folder.
Bring folded edge up to line, crease with bone folder again then open cardstock back out.
Open it up and turn the paper and repeat this process on each corner of each piece of square paper so that when you are done they look like this:
Step 6) Assemble the Boxes
Make 4 cuts along the score lines as shown below:
Fold the triangle pointed sides in first (the left and right points in the picture above) so that the point of the triangles are in the center of the box. The long flaps on each side will be folded towards each other and held in place by folding the remaining points of the square over top of them. Secure the points in the center with a glue dot or bit of other adhesive.
Step 8) Put it together!
Begin attaching the boxes on the panels, by placing a strip of sticky strip on the side of a box and sticking it to one panel beginning on either the far left or right at the bottom. Add a box on each panel so that the bottom is slightly above the top of the previous box so that they will stack when the fantasy box is folded.
Step 9) Embellish!
You'll have a bigger box that will be the lid which holds it all together when it's folded. Use brads, primas, ribbon, hodge podge hardware etc...to decorate it any way you want!

This is such a cute box. i made one of this a while back in a baby theme for putting either the hospital bracelet, link of hair etc and used that way or for diaper pins etc in the nursery. Thanks for the instructions. I would like to make another one after seeing yours. Thanks again.
