Brocade Beautiful

It's been awhile since I posted anything with scrapbooking so I figured now would be a good time, lol.....Last Wednesday I had my downline meeting at the house and the girls had expressed a desire to focus on scrapbooking so here is the first project we did:

This was made using the printed paper frrom the holiday mini, Holiday Harmony and the Brocade Basics stamp set.  This is an example of Progressive Scrapbooking.  Basically you start with a 6 x 6 page, build it into an 8 1/2" x 11" page and stack that onto a 12 x 12 page.  When I'm doing a progressive page, I like to use a minimum of 2 patterns for printed paper and 3 colors.  When they are layered, and you add the embellishments you get a beautiful page that is full of interest and dimension.  For added texture to this page I added a buckle onto the satin ribbon, added some dry embossed divots onto both the top edge of the pomegranate card stock and bottom of the 12 x 12 artichoke card stock (click here for the tutorial on that!), the photo corner is popped out with dimensionals and the scalloped circles are held together with Rhinestone brads from the pretties kit and placed onto the page again, with dimensionals. 

Remember that when you have a page that contains hard embellishments, to place them carefully so that they will not rub on the pictures on the opposite side of the book and that scrapbooks should always be stored standing, not lying down, this helps to prevent any embellishments from damaging your pictures.  And that's really what it's all about right?....the pictures!  Yeah, yeah...I'll add some soon, lol.....

Double Slider Card Tutorial!

As promised, here's the other card I made at my advanced class this month! 

Shamelessly, I have to admit that is is mostly copied by another artist's wonderful card that I saw on Split Coast Stampers, who's name now eludes me.  These colors together really caught my eye so I substituted the Garden Whimsy set instead since the class was focused in with that one :)  This tutorial also includes directions for the "Rock 'n Roll" technique.

Whimsical Spinner!

Check this out!  This was one of the two cards that I did in my advanced class this month.....I simply adore this set!  This sample also utilizes the masking technique into the spinner design.

Everyone who was at the class loved this card, they are so much fun to play with!  If you are not familiar with how a spinner card works, when you tilt the card from side to side, that round scalloped piece spins over to the other side in the track :)

 

Rather than repeat a tutorial in this post that I already have in word format, I uploaded the file in the Tutorial list in the right hand column.  There are step by step instructions including lots of pictures!  The pictures do make it load a bit slow so please be patient...it's a large file!  If you have trouble with it let me know!  Vista users may have issues...I know I sure do!

Christmas Swap Cards....Round 2!

I've added the rest of the swap cards to my holiday mini photo album now...It was so hard to pick my favorites this year!  This is my favorite swap of the year by far....people put so much effort into their designs giving me some really awesome ideas for my classes!  Enjoy!

Christmas Card Swaps to Drool Over!

As promised (although a bit later than I thought!) here are the first batch of Christmas cards that I received in a recent holiday mini swap that I participated in!  There are some very talented ladies in this group and it was a privledge to swap with them :)  All the swaps are posted in my Holiday Mini photo album in the right hand side bar.  Batch two will be posted tomorrow!

Shadow Stamping Tutorial!

Here's a card I made recently using the shadow stamping technique with the flourish from the Baroque Motifs set.    

                

With this particular stamp I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig so that I could perfectly align where the images would be.  With a less detailed stamp I can usually get away without it.

To begin, I randomly stamped the flourish from Baroque Motifs onto Soft Sky cardstock using Soft Sky ink.

                     

Place one corner of the imaging sheet that comes with the SAMJ into a corner slot of the placement tool.

Ink up your cleaned stamp (the same stamp you used in step 1), place it into the same corner of the tool that the imaging sheet is in and stamp down.

Set the tool aside, and move the imaging sheet over to the stamped cardstock.  Line up the image on the sheet, with the image on the cardstock so that it is slighty off to one side.

Replace the tool into the corner of the imaging sheet, and hold it steady on the cardstock, do not let it move!

Carefully remove the imaging sheet without moving the paper, most times the tool will be right on the cardstock and will hold it steady for you!  Ink up your stamp in white craft ink, line up the stamp into the same corner of the tool that the imaging sheet just came out of, and stamp down! 

You should now have a perfectly aligned shadow stamped image!

Stamp set:  Baroque Motifs; Ink: Soft Sky, White Craft ink ; Cardstock:  Soft Sky, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White ; Accessories: Scallop punch, rhinestone brad, paper piercer from the crafters tool kit, double stiched grosgrain ribbon

Holiday Mini Excitement!

So I've been waiting and waiting for my holiday mini swap to be ready for pickup and I just haven't been able to get over to the hostess's house to pick it up yet.......she lives in Edmonton, I live in Stony Plain, it's about a 40 minute drive from my house to hers and I am way to cheap to pay the postage both ways....hopefully I'll get them tomorrow!  But here's the card that I made for the swap, I used the new Season of Joy set out of the Holiday Mini Collection :) 

The Christmas tree is stamped using Wild Wasabi ink onto shimmery white card stock then layered onto Purely Pomegranate card stock.  The snowflake is from the same set and is stamped with pomegranate then punched out using the 1 1/4" circle punch.  I layered that onto a 1 3/8" circle of Wild Wasabi, folded a hunk of the double stitched ribbon and attached it in behind with a gold brad.

Once those pieces were done, I began assembling....the card base with pomegranate, a wild wasabi layer, followed by a piece of the new Prints Designer Series patterned paper in celery, then I added the tree piece and lastly the circle piece with a stampin' dimensional. 

The sentiment comes from many Merry Messages...one of my all time favorite Christmas Greeting sets!

The one thing I might have changed for this card had I not had to make 30 of them was to add some dazzling diamonds glitter on the tree...that would have really finished it off!  Especially since I am a sucker for anything glitter, lol....
